Steele Rubber Tour

Steele’s headquarters and manufacturing facility is located in Denver, NC; about forty miles west of the Charlotte metro area. The company was started by Lynn Steele in the Detroit, MI area. Mr. Steele was restoring a 1931 Cadillac and could not locate any rubber items, i.e. weather stripping, windshield gaskets, etc. Being in the tool and die trade, he fabricated the tooling needed to mold the various items himself.  Soon others asked Lynn if he could manufacture rubber items for them and the business took off. In 1975, Mr. Steele moved his family and the business to Denver, NC.

Steele Rubber Products continues to operate from the same facility since 1975. In addition to a wide range of various rubber items for numerous makes of older automobiles, Steele Rubber Products also offers many rubber items for the RV and Marine industries. They are active members of SEMA, ARMO and HRIA.

Steele Rubber Products has handed down its legacy for three generations and continues to manufacture in America! Upon request, Steele Rubber Products will create a custom catalog of rubber seals, parts and weather-stripping for your specific year and model car. Additionally, Steele Rubber offers “How To” videos covering numerous installations of Steele Rubber products. Steele Rubber Products has a retail store at its facility in Denver, NC. If you are planning to attend the tour to Steele, order ahead of time, pick up your order and save shipping costs.

NC Transportation Museum

The N.C. Transportation Museum is a historic site, once home to Southern Railway’s largest steam locomotive repair facility in the southeast. The N.C. Transportation Museum is located about five minutes off I-85, about an hour’s drive North from Charlotte, North Carolina.

You can take a train ride around our 60-acre historic site; see antique cars and trucks, pieces of history in aviation – including a replica of the Wright Brothers flyer and the restoration of a Piedmont Airlines DC-3 airplane, and so much more!

The museum offers a train ride pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive on select days during the year. The ride takes place entirely on the property of the 60-acre North Carolina Transportation Museum and offers a tour of the historic site by train. You’ll ride along and see the structures that were used to service Southern Railway’s steam locomotives when the Spencer Shops werein operation.  Train rides last approximately 25 minutes and are fun for all ages.

The museum also features a fully functional “Roundhouse”, which is the largest remaining roundhouse in North America, and is home to locomotives and passenger rail cars. The massive Back Shop, where steam locomotives were once completely overhauled, now houses rail cars of the past, antique automobiles, fire trucks, and the restoration of the Piedmont Airlines’ Potomac Pacemaker DC-3.  The Flue Shop houses the museum’s Bumper to Bumper automotive exhibit.

Full bathroom facilities are located in several of the museum’s buildings and there is also a full service gift shop for all of your memento needs.
